Hurdles on the Horizon

I have really enjoyed these last few weeks since finishing chemo. I am feeling stronger; I no longer have a headache; I am not such a frequent visitor to the oncology office—Ah, the good life! Yet looming on the horizon is my next hurdle in the cancer fight. I will undergo surgery on Monday and the anxiety is beginning to creep in. I feel confident in my decision. I have great assurance in my surgical team. I have a wonderful support network of family and friends to help me. But since the only surgery I have ever had was when I had my wisdom teeth removed at age 22, a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction seems like a much scarier endeavor!

But I will trust in my God and his protection over me. He has shown himself faithful throughout this cancer journey and I know he will continue to carry me as I enter this next phase. 1 john 4:18 says, Perfect love casts out fear, so I will choose to focus on God’s perfect love for me and not let fear get its grip on me in the days before surgery.

…I saw the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest in hope. Acts 2:25-26

Hurdles aren’t the only thing I see on the horizon—I also see hope.

Will be praying. I don’t believe God expects us to be fearless but calls us to be faithful and I know you have been that for sure.

Praise the Lord you know the truth that focusing on the hopeful horizon causes the hurdles to be more easily overcome. May you continue to experience the peace of Jesus. Your circumstance may intensify, but God’s love and faithfulness never diminishes.

I am on the heels of an bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction myself less then 8 months ago. I understand the fear and the call out for protection of Gods hands to look over you during this time in your life. God will lead you by the way, you do not know, along unfamiliar paths, he will guild you, he will turn darkness into light, and make the rough places smooth, these are the things God will do for you, he will not forsaken them. God bless you on your journey….

    Erin!
Such beautiful words of strength and faith and courage. God is going before you to prepare everyone involved in the surgery. He is also preparing your heart. It’s a blessing to now that you have such a great support system, as well. Praying for you as you enter into the next phase of your journey. I will certainly miss you in class, as well, so I will ask for a swift and complete recovery!!

    Lots of love,
    Jenayu

I’m convinced that nothing can separate us from God’s love in Christ Jesus our Lord: not death or life, not angels or rulers, not present things or future things, not powers or height or depth, or any other thing that is created. (Romans 8:38, 39 CEB)

Oh my goodness, Erin. I will pray for you most earnestly today. Your faith in God is inspiring. Your experience, your unswerving faith, and sharing it with others … I know that you are making a difference in the lives of others, that you are helping them with your strength as an example to everyone. I know many people will be praying your name today and tomorrow. God will hear your name. ~ Tilda

I will definitely be praying for you and your surgery. In my situation I had a couple surgeries prior to going through treatment and having had surgery treatment still seems scary to me, so if you can handle the chemo and still remain strong you will be just fine with surgery.
